Elmore County Public Schools is pleased to announce the kick-off of

Year 2 of the U.S. Department of Education Teaching American History Grant.

All Social Studies and History teachers in grades 7-12 will be participating in this

project which focuses on advancing the content knowledge of teachers and enhancing

the presentation of lessons through the implementation of strategic teaching strategies

and best practices.

In addition to the advanced content instruction and  professional development,

teachers will participate in field studies at various locations, two book studies each year,

and will work to create lesson plans, activities, and projects to be shared on an online

collaborative website. Participants will also receive quality materials and resources

to help move instruction from the textbooks to primary and secondary sources,

supplemental reading materials, maps, simulations, and engaging, interactive activities.

The greatest benefit of this opportunity will be that through the increase of teacher

content knowledge and pedagogy, students will achieve greater success and

will have the necessary skills to thoroughly analyze historical content and have a

more active role in the future of our country.
