Mr. Steve McKenzie serves as the Director of the Compliance Department. In this role, he oversees the district’s adherence to several critical policies and laws, including:
Title IX
Mr. McKenzie acts as the district’s Title IX Coordinator, responsible for addressing any Title IX complaints and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
• Federal Title IX regulations mandate that schools must respond promptly to any report or allegation of sexual harassment once an employee has knowledge of such an incident.
• All employees are required to report any instances of sex discrimination—including sexual harassment involving staff or students—to their Principal, immediate Supervisor, or directly to the Title IX Coordinator.
Alabama Due Process Law
Mr. McKenzie also oversees compliance with the Alabama Due Process Law, which protects students’ rights in serious disciplinary matters.
Teacher Bill of Rights
Under the Teacher Bill of Rights, Mr. McKenzie ensures support for classroom teachers in maintaining discipline and a safe learning environment.
Elmore County Threat Assessment Protocol
Mr. McKenzie oversees the implementation of the district’s Threat Assessment Protocol, developed to support schools in the assessment and management of potential threats.
• The protocol provides a structured process for investigating and addressing threats with the goal of preventing targeted violence.
• It reflects best practices in creating safe, supportive school environments and focuses on preventing, mitigating, responding to, and recovering from disruptions.

Mr. McKenzie acts as the district’s Title IX Coordinator, responsible for addressing any Title IX complaints and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
